Population II is a band committed to its own disengagement, working with unwavering consistency to refine a sound that’s massive yet unpretentious. The trio, singer/drummer Pierre-Luc Gratton, guitarist/keyboardist Tristan Lacombe, and bassist Sébastien Provençal, are masters of both wild improvisation and polished composition, delivering heavy psychedelic rock infused with feverish funk rhythms, the philosophy of jazz, the raw energy of early punk, and a deep love of minor scales that nods to heavy metal roots.
Opening act – Alix Fernz
Scratchy and contrasting, Alix Fernz’s music takes root in post-punk, flirting with hypnagogic pop. Blending lo-fi synthwave and alternative rock, his warped yet catchy melodies frame stories of bar life, addiction, and psychosocial unrest. Drawing from fashion, drag, and meme culture, he sketches a cybernetic coming-of-age. Alix Fernz unveils a mostly French debut album, distilling desire, anxiety, and revolt into an ironic, unruly pop form. The Montreal-based artist presents Bizou, released April 19, 2024 via Mothland.
